Meet your farmers

Kaz Mock has worked on numerous farms in Powhatan and Cumberland, adopting natural growing practices that keep both the food and consumer safe and healthy. Farming is her true passion due to its beauty, challenge, and physical nature. No job could be more rewarding than nourishing her community! Her career experience includes a decade of wellness coaching in the fitness field and another decade in social work.

Her favorite food to grow is sweet potatoes and her favorite flower is yarrow. She loves to trail run, road bike, lift in the barn, and move her body farming.

Wes Smith worked in the sciences - biology labs and the organ transplant field before switching careers to become a Registered Dietitian to help people prevent/correct chronic disease and reduce the need for organ transplants. He currently helps patients in a local hospital to improve outcomes and feel better.

The desire to get outside and run/bike/camp has been ever-present but after a personal bout with transient paralysis, the importance of daily movement and strength training was solidified. When he’s not at work, he’s working on the farm, mountain biking or running down to the creek with Cora and the mutts. His favorite foods from the farm are butternut squash, blackberries and eggs!

Cora is the family’s chicken wrangler. She also handles all things bug related (often saving both the good and bad ones). She knows a lot about chickens and their eggs. Cora has keen observation skills and possesses the most common sense of anyone on the farm.

She’s partial to carrots and sugar snap peas (but never the pod). Her current favorite chicken is Little Pip with Mary Cheeks coming in second. She loves hitting the trails, zip line and climbing wall on the farm.
